Implant Case #6

Home Health Aide In Need of Dental Aide

A 65 year old home health aide presented in need of dental care and didn't want to continue with her prior dentist whose office was 50 miles south.

The images below were of her teeth as she presented to our office.

While she did have implants already placed in the maxillary arch the prosthesis that she wore was loose and the prosthetic teeth were set on a bias and slanted.

The image below is a picture of her maxillary arch with the prosthesis removed.

Note the remaining teeth and the previously placed implants in the maxillary arch. In spite of the implants, the prosthesis was unstable; it had a predilection for dislodging when the patient opened her mouth.

In the mandibular arch the patient had remaining teeth anteriorly but they were all decayed and for the most part hopeless; she also had two implants previously placed on one side of her mouth. The images below reveal the two implants on the one side as well as the hopelessly decayed teeth.

The plan included the placement of an additional implant in the maxillary arch, It was felt that this would stabilize her prosthesis. The plan also included extracting the remaining decayed and hopeless teeth in the mandibular arch, bone grafting the extraction sites and then placing 4 implants to stabilize a Complete Lower Prosthesis.

The image below is a picture of the maxillary arch with the additional implant which imparts greater stability to the prosthesis. (Note the gold colored attachments to which the prosthesis clips.)
